Buck Moon in Aquarius 2026

facepalm

The Universe: "Let's give her a wave of exhaustion or stomach ache every time she says 'I'm fine' and doesn't mean it."
Me: cool cool cool, guess I'll just nap through my own feelings instead of having them?
The Universe: ….

July 29th, 2026, Aquarius Full Moon: She peaks at 16:35 CEST, right in the middle of a Wednesday afternoon, while most of us are somewhere between our third coffee and pretending we can handle all the different directions we are being pulled. Oh, and of course you just said yes to that event you absolutely have to sacrifice yourself for.. Darling.. Let’s talk.

Welcome to the Buck Moon in Aquarius. And she's bringing some shifts this time: the North Node just shifted into this exact sign three days before she peaks, which means we're not only closing a chapter, we're opening a whole new one. More on that in a minute. And yes, if you're in the Netherlands, I do have something special planned for this one. But first, let's understand what we're actually working with.

Why do we call it a Buck Moon?

The name comes from Algonquin tribes of what's now the northeastern United States. In July, male deer push fresh, velvet-covered antlers out of their skulls, which is a pretty impressive sudden, visible growth. Colonial almanacs borrowed the name, and it stuck ever since. Other traditions called this same moon the Thunder Moon, the Hay Moon, or the Wort Moon, depending on what was happening in the fields that particular July, but Buck Moon is the one that made it into our calendars. However, a Thunder Moon also feels dramatically fitting.

But you know why I find the Buck Moon and the growth of antlers so inspiring? Antlers don't grow to match everyone else's. They grow exactly as unusual, asymmetrical, and unmistakably themselves as the animal that carries them. No two sets are the same. Sound like a sign we know? And they instinctively know how to use it too! Soft, yet strong. Just like feminine energy when it is in her authenticity.

We forget how much of our talents we give away or hide, just to keep the peace or please someone else, but it is really in your own authenticity where you can truly shine and get to know yourself. If you have ever been wondering if you have any talents, that might be a good sign and invitation that you have suppressed your authenticity in some way. When you reconnect with that part.. woow.. you won’t believe the things you can do in your life. And if you're in the Netherlands and free on the evening of Wednesday 29 July, I'd love to have you in the flesh for this one. I'm hosting a small, intimate cacao ceremony that evening called In Her Authenticity, built specifically around this Full Moon's invitation. I'll tell you all about it further down, so more about this later.

Aquarius: the friend who was right three years before everyone else

Let me introduce you to Aquarius properly, because if this sign were a person in your group chat, they'd be the one with the slightly-too-early opinion that turns out, three years later, to have been correct all along. One of my dearest friends are Aquarius, and they are the best advice-givers, believe me. And they looooove to tease me with it, since I’m quite the stubborn Taurus.

Ruled by Uranus (with steady old Saturn as its traditional co-ruler), Aquarius is a fixed air sign, which is its own delicious contradiction. Fixed means stubborn: a.k.a. I have made up my mind and I will not be moved. Air means detached, cerebral, more comfortable with an idea than a feeling. Put them together and you get someone who will defend a belief to the death, using entirely logical, entirely unbothered language. They are amazing analysers and secretly love being special and unique, which, yeah, they are.

At its best, Aquarius is the friend who genuinely does not care what's "normal," who sees the bigger picture of humanity and wants to build something better for everyone, not just themselves. They're original without trying, loyal to causes bigger than any single relationship, and quietly, stubbornly kind underneath all that detachment.

At its shadow, that same independence becomes a hiding place. I don't need anyone. Feelings are inconvenient. I'm fine on my own, thanks. The very freedom that makes Aquarius so magnetic can calcify into a distance that keeps real intimacy at arm's length, because if you never let anyone close, they can never leave, and you never have to be just an ordinary, needy human being.

That detachment, love, is exactly what this Full Moon is here to shine her lights upon.

Six months ago, almost to the day, there was a New Moon and solar eclipse in Aquarius on 17 February 2026. New moons are planting moments: seeds go into dark soil and nothing visible happens for a while. So take a moment now. What was stirring for you in mid-February. Who knows, maybe it was some quiet act of rebellion, some "I'm going to stop pretending" moment, in the outer world or somewhere private inside you? This Full Moon is where it becomes visible. You might feel proud of what's grown. You might feel like it's not what you expected yet. Both are exactly right. For me personally, if I look back in my agenda, it was almost the exact moment I was told in my Reiki Therapy education that it was mandatory to stop my work as a cacao ceremony facilitator until graduating. Including having Cacao moments for myself. This was a huge shock for me. And this upcoming Wednesday is the first time I get to work with Cacao again! What a full circle moment! You can imagine my excitement for it, right?

What you might experience during this Aquarius Full Moon

This Full Moon sits on the Leo-Aquarius axis, one of the most personal-versus-collective pairings in the whole zodiac. Leo says look at me, I am unrepeatable, I shine. Aquarius says look at us! True freedom means everyone gets to shine, not just me. It's very much an outer world versus inner world kind of pull. I want to look a certain way on the outside, but I feel a certain way on the inside: what part do you listen to most?
Right now, the Sun and Jupiter are conjunct in Leo, sitting directly opposite the Moon and Pluto conjunct in Aquarius. That's a big, bright opposition: your personal light on one side, the weight of transformation and collective truth on the other.

And then there's the headline news: the North Node shifted into Aquarius on 26 July, just three days before this Full Moon peaks, opening a new nodal chapter that runs all the way through March 2028 (with the South Node settling into Leo). In plain terms, we're collectively being nudged away from needing to be seen as the best, and toward something more communal, more original, more ours rather than mine. This moon lands right at that blurry edge, which is part of why it feels unusually significant. It asks a certain kind of vulnerability that this world is currently not so in touch with anymore; let’s say it like that.
Do you speak out about the things you feel? And can you do so in an authentic way so you still respect others?

Darling, to summarize it, right now, change wants to move through you, not just sit on your chest. And Mercury only just finished retrograding on 23 July, so expect some catch-up clarity too, right as this moon peaks.

This Full Moon can highlight themes around:

  • Freedom versus belonging. Where have you been shrinking your originality to stay accepted somewhere? Could be a job, a family role, a friend group, and the harder question that follows: where is it time to let your actual self take up more space? Do you know how?

  • Sudden truth. Ever had a lightning-bolt realisation hitting you out of nowhere like Oh.. my… God. Pay attention to the thought that strikes you out of nowhere this week, it's probably not random.

  • Letting go of outdated structures. With Pluto right on the Moon, this is a moon for releasing systems, roles, or relationships built on an older, smaller version of you. What no longer fits the person you're becoming? And love, let me hold your hand while I say this: This sometimes comes with sacrifices.

  • Reclaiming your life force. Opposite fiery Leo and Jupiter, this moon also asks: where have you dimmed your own light to keep the peace? What would it feel like to actually enjoy being seen again?

  • A new two-year chapter. With the North Node freshly in Aquarius, this Full Moon isn't just closing a loop, it's opening one. What direction, however unclear right now, is quietly calling you forward? Look for those little sparks of interest inside of you. Or check your AI conversations and see the little hints, or big ones, that nudge you towards wanting change

Your body's whisper (or very anxious sigh)

Aquarius rules the ankles, calves, shins, and Achilles tendons, along with the circulatory system; the ongoing, unglamorous work of keeping blood moving through you. Fitting, for a sign obsessed with flow, connection, and staying unstuck. But also scary, because it’s one of the first signs you can feel when you get out of balance.

Around this Full Moon, you might notice tension or twinges in your lower legs, tight ankles, restless calves, or a general sense of "stuck" circulation (cold feet, heavy legs by the end of the day). Emotionally, this often mirrors what's happening inside: places where your own energy has gotten stagnant, where you've been standing still on something for too long, afraid to take the next step.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the ankles and lower legs are crossed by the Bladder meridian, one of the longest channels in the body, running from the eyes all the way down the back of the legs to the smallest toe. It's associated with releasing what's been held: old fluid, old waste, old emotional residue that no longer serves the system. A blocked Bladder meridian can show up as exactly this: tight calves, cranky ankles, a body that resists moving forward even when the mind is ready. But also stagnation in the body in other ways.
Mental state: Deep-seated fear, anxiety, a sense of being paralyzed, or total emotional burnout.
Physical state: Chronic exhaustion, constant coldness, and issues tied to the lower back or kidneys.

Where in your body are you still standing still? And what would it feel like to finally take the step you've been circling? Especially with it being Leo season, this is a great time to start doing lymphatic hops, jumping exercises, somatic shaking or my personal favourite: just dance! (yes, that amazing Wii game, remember? IYKYK)

A special Aquarius Full Moon ritual

This moon is powerful for releasing the masks you wear to belong, and embracing the parts of you that are wonderfully, unapologetically your own.

If you're in the Netherlands: come sit with me in person. And we will go through the themes together.

I'm hosting In Her Authenticity | Aquarius Full Moon Cacao Ceremony on Wednesday 29 July, 19:30–22:00, at Hotel The Usual in Rotterdam. It's a small, intimate circle for women, max 8 of us, built entirely around what this Full Moon is asking: to drop the masks, stop adjusting yourself to be accepted, and let yourself be seen exactly as you are.

We'll move through a heart-opening ceremonial cacao ritual, a quiet practice of being witnessed without a single word exchanged, a guided inner-child meditation, and journaling inspired by this moon's themes of identity, courage, and liberation. Tea and snacks are included, mats and pillows are provided, and you're welcome to bring your own comfort items. Read all about it and book your spot here.

Can't make it? Here's a mini ritual to meet this moon at home.

You don't need a circle of women or a cacao ceremony to work with this energy, just twenty quiet minutes, maybe a candle, and a willingness to look at yourself honestly.
What you need: maybe a candle, a mirror, paper and a pen, and, if you have it, a warm cup of cacao or tea.

  • Step 1: Sit in front of the mirror. Really look at yourself for thirty seconds without fixing your hair, adjusting your face, or looking away. Just notice what it feels like to be witnessed by no one but you. I know how easy it is to find all the flaws, but I’d like to invite you to scan for the uniqueness. What makes you you. And what parts deserve more of your love instead of criticism.

  • Step 2: Make your "masks" list. On your paper, write down every mask, role, or version of yourself you've been performing lately to be accepted, liked, or easy to be around. Be specific: the "I'm fine" mask, the "low-maintenance" mask, the "I don't need anything" mask. See how many masks you can come up with and dare yourself to write down why this mask was created in the first place and what it protects. Because all masks are there for a reason and have served a purpose at some point.

  • Step 3: Choose one mask to set down this week. Not all of them, just one. We want to do this with kindness, patience and curiosity. Write it at the bottom of your page as a small, real commitment: this week, I will stop pretending that… and let your authentic experiment begin.

  • Step 4: Finish with your legs up the wall. Sit close to a wall, swing your legs up it, and rest there for five to ten breaths. Let gravity do the circulating for you, the same way you just let yourself be witnessed without performing. As you lie there, say quietly: I don't need to shrink, hide, or perform to belong.

If you feel like you could need some: finish with a few shake-outs, some jumpy movements to let the stagnation leave your body and make things flow again.

What to focus on during yoga?

For your practice this week, let the invitation be presence over performance. Aquarius energy can get very heady, very "let me think my way through this," so we're coming back down into the legs, the ankles, the actual physical fact of standing on the earth. And people with big Leo placements may be challenged on the performance part even more. As if they have to show everyone that they can do it all. But, my dear Leo. Can you focus on your limits and honor them? Even if that means you have to surrender into child's pose before anyone else does. Your body will thank you.

Five poses to explore:

1. Tree Pose (Vrksasana): Root down through one standing foot, drawing the sole of the other to your ankle, calf, or inner thigh (never directly on the knee). Let your gaze settle on one point ahead of you. Notice how much of "balance" is actually about not gripping, about trusting the ground rather than fighting for control. This is Aquarius's whole lesson in miniature: standing steady in your own truth without needing to hold on so tightly.

2. Garland Pose (Malasana):  Come into a deep squat, feet slightly wider than hip distance, heels down if you can (a folded blanket or block underneath helps). Palms together, elbows pressing gently against your inner knees. This pose opens the ankles directly and asks your lower body to soften into a shape most of us stopped using once we left childhood. Notice any resistance in your ankles or calves, that's exactly the stuck energy this moon wants you to meet.

3. Low Lunge (Anjaneyasana): Step one foot forward into a lunge, back knee down, curling your back toes under briefly to stretch the Achilles tendon and calf before releasing the top of the foot to the mat. Sink your hips forward and down. This pose stretches the exact terrain Aquarius rules, while also asking you to take up more physical space: extend those arms in a way that feels good to you, no matter how that looks.

4. Bridge Pose (Setu Bandha Sarvangasana): Lie on your back, knees bent, feet hip-width apart close to your seat, and lift your hips as you press into your feet and upper arms. This gentle heart-opener supports circulation back toward the chest and head, connecting the Aquarius legs to the Leo heart on the opposite side of this moon's axis. Notice the openness across your chest: is there anywhere you're holding back on your own light? Maybe raise those heels off the ground or try a one-legged version.

5. Legs-Up-The-Wall (Viparita Karani): I just love this one. Especially for heavy legs and stagnated fluids in them. Scoot your seat close to a wall, swing your legs up it, and let your arms rest open by your sides. Stay for five to ten slow breaths, or longer if you have the time. This is the ultimate circulation reset, gravity doing the work your calves usually do, and a beautiful physical metaphor for surrendering control and letting things flow without forcing anything.

There is no extra yoga teacher tips this time, other than: bring things back to their basics and origins. Invite your yogis to feel and help them authentically express their way of the pose.

Reflective journal prompts

  1. Where in my life have I been playing a smaller, safer, more "acceptable" version of myself to keep belonging somewhere?

  2. What sudden realisation or uncomfortable truth has been trying to get my attention lately, and what have I been doing to avoid hearing it?

  3. What structure, role, or relationship have I outgrown but am still maintaining out of habit, loyalty, or fear? Hint: what have your surroundings been pointing out lately?

  4. Looking back to mid-February, what seed did I plant then that I can now actually see the shape of?

  5. If I truly trusted that my differences were my gift rather than my flaw, what would I do differently starting this week?

Aquarius’ parting words would be…

Stop asking permission to be exactly who you are. You were never meant to be understood by everyone, only recognised by the ones who matter. Let the rest wonder about you. It's not a punishment. That's the whole point.

I think this is the thing so many of us need to hear on repeat: your strangeness, your original angle on the world, your refusal to fit neatly into other people's boxes, isn't something to apologise for. It's exactly what you were sent here to offer. Your dreams, ideas and wishes are there for a reason. They are not there to torment you! On the contrary, they are here to guide you to a life that sets you up for your unique expression and success.
So take this Buck Moon as your permission slip to keep being unmistakably, unapologetically you. Let those real strengths come up and let yourself be surprised by how it makes your energy flow and attract opportunities left and right.

Grow those antlers and make sure to make them as weird and unique as you can!

Happy Buck Moon! ♒🌕
