The history of Human Design

Human Design was created by Ra Uru Hu (born Robert Allan Krakower) in 1987 after a mystical experience he had on the island of Ibiza. During an eight-day period, Ra received a transmission of information that formed the foundation of the Human Design system. Combining esoteric and scientific principles, he developed a complex yet accessible system that aims to help people understand their individual design and how to live in harmony with their energy.

Since its inception, Human Design has grown into a worldwide phenomenon, helping people gain a deeper understanding of themselves and others. It’s a powerful tool for personal development, relationships, and self-awareness.

Your Human Design chart, also known as a BodyGraph, is calculated using your birth date, time, and location. It reveals your unique energetic blueprint, highlighting your Type, Authority, Centers, and Profile. These elements outline your natural gifts, the best way to make decisions, and how you interact with others and the world around you. By understanding your design, you can learn how to express your true nature, reduce resistance, and live a life that feels purposeful and authentic.

A Human Design reading is a guided exploration of your unique chart. During the session, we’ll dive into your core elements, including your Type, Strategy, Authority, Centers, and Profile. Each of these components provides insights into your energy, purpose, and the best way for you to move through life.

A reading is very personal and can look different depending on what is needed. On average your first session can include:

1. Your Type: Understanding your energy type (Manifestor, Generator, Manifesting Generator, Projector, or Reflector) and how it shapes your interaction with the world.

2. Your Strategy: The best approach for you to make decisions and take action without resistance.

3. Your Authority: Your personal decision-making style and how to trust your inner guidance.

4. Your Centers: The defined and undefined energy centers in your chart, showing where you have consistent strengths and where you may be influenced by others.

5. Your Profile: The role you’re here to play in life and how you’re meant to approach your purpose.

Session Length:

Human Design readings typically last 60 to 90 minutes, allowing us to explore your chart in depth and answer any questions you may have.

After a Human Design reading, people typically experience a mix of emotions and reactions depending on where they are in their self-discovery journey and how much information resonates with them. Here’s a summary of common feelings and insights clients often report:

Many people feel a deep sense of validation and relief, as if they’ve received permission to be who they naturally are. Hearing about their strengths, tendencies, and ways of making decisions often feels like a confirmation of what they’ve always sensed within themselves but may not have fully embraced.

Self-Care tips after a Reading

First of all, experiment! But give yourself some time to land. You'll suddenly have a lot of information and it is important not to act hastly. Take you time. You could also:

1. Reflect and journal

• Take some time to write down your thoughts and feelings after the session. Reflect on the aspects of your design that resonated most and consider what this new awareness means for your life.

• You can ask yourself questions like:

  • “Which parts of my design felt validating?”

  • “Where have I been living out of alignment with my Type or Strategy?”

  • “What small adjustments can I make to honor my energy and my unique design?”

2. Focus on strategy and authority

• Your strategy and authority are the most important elements to begin experimenting with. Start paying attention to how you make decisions and whether they align with your strategy (e.g., waiting for the Sacral response if you’re a Generator) and authority (e.g., emotional clarity for Emotional Authorities).

• Consider setting a small intention to follow your strategy and authority for a few weeks, and note the results in your life. This experiment will provide the foundation for living in alignment.

3. Start small and be gentle with yourself

• The information from a Human Design reading can be a lot to take in. Focus on integrating one or two key aspects at a time, rather than trying to implement everything all at once.

• Remember, Human Design is about experimenting and observing, not about changing yourself overnight. Give yourself permission to explore without judgment or pressure.

4. Revisit Your reading and take notes

• If you made a recording or a summary from your reading, revisit it periodically. New insights often come up as you re-listen or re-read, especially after you’ve had time to observe how your design shows up in your life.

• As you grow and evolve, different parts of your chart will take on new significance.

5. Practice self-compassion

• Embracing your true nature can sometimes bring up feelings of regret or “wasted” time for not living in alignment sooner. Remember that your Human Design journey is meant to unfold at its own pace.

• Be patient and compassionate with yourself as you start to make shifts and adjustments.

6. Experiment and observe

• Human Design is ultimately an experiment. Notice how it feels when you follow your strategy and authority versus when you don’t. This observational approach will help you build trust in your design and find what works best for you.

• Make a habit of pausing before major decisions and asking yourself: “Am I responding in a way that aligns with my strategy and authority?”

7. Pay attention to your centers

• If your reading touched on your defined and undefined Centers, notice where you might be taking in energy from others. For example, if you have an undefined Emotional Center, ask yourself: “Am I feeling my own emotions, or am I absorbing someone else’s energy?”

8. Integrate one practical change at a time

• Choose one small action step that aligns with your design and focus on it for the next week or two. This could be using your sacral response to make daily decisions, honoring your need for rest, or communicating differently based on your Profile.

• Slowly build on these changes as you become more comfortable living your design.

9. Consider a follow-up session

• As you begin to integrate and experiment with your design, new questions or areas of focus might arise. Consider booking a follow-up session to dive deeper into specific aspects of your chart, such as your Gates, Channels, or Incarnation Cross. Or integrate your HD in coaching sessions.

• A follow-up session can also provide guidance for any challenges or resistance you might be experiencing as you align more closely with your design.

10. Share and connect

• If you feel comfortable, share your Human Design insights with trusted friends or loved ones. Understanding your design (and theirs, if they are interested) can improve communication and deepen your relationships.
